They are designed to protect the foot from the impact of blows or crushing and different abrasives of chemical products. They are also impervious to liquids and can be found in their version with a steel tip.

They are resistant to use with alcohols, fuels, chlorinated waters, detergents, asphalt, lime, soda, gypsum, hydrochloric acid and dilute nitric acid.
