The Logistics Business Group of the Ministry of Agriculture (Gelma) has identified business opportunities that allow it to access technology, the market and financing sources to guarantee the sustainable development program foreseen by Cuban agriculture.
Alberto Rivero, main specialist of the business group, informed that they have a group of projects in the formulation and elaboration phase; We work on the opportunity cards, in the pre-feasibility studies to make up the opportunities portfolio.
It is, he said, projects for the assembly of technologies, agricultural equipment, for the provision of specialized services, and most include the export of services as a way to ensure sustainability. We are studying the market, mainly in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Rosa María Ramos Calzada, Director of Development and Investment of Gelma, said the group has developed a comprehensive development program with projection until 2022, which is approved by the Ministry of Economy and Planning (MEP), which includes all its companies to guarantee the logistics of the commercialization and specialized technical services to the whole system of agriculture.
Both managers assure that Gelma has a high potential of engineers, technicians, workers with a high qualification, even recently they have gone to train in China and other countries to do the job of exporting the services.
You have to create conditions first, not only is training, you have to have equipment, with infrastructure and we are working on that, they commented. "We want to make these projects sustainable," emphasized Rosa María.
We are looking for sources of currency to ensure that the projects are sustainable and that the producer reaches a service that has resources, state-of-the-art technology, to move towards precision agriculture, and Gelma has a responsibility in that regard, he said.
He also informed that Gelma provides services to the different business groups of the Ministry of Agriculture. In the case of irrigation systems, which have entered and have been incorporated into the Agricultural Group through collaboration programs, the Workshops Company gives them specialized technical service, and must guarantee sustainability, the same applies to tractors.
Our company Desmonte y Construcciones (Edescon) has an impact on the livestock sector, since it works on the clearing of the areas to be dedicated to production.
It also has a presence in Mayarí, in the Transfers project, and both the engineering and Edescon services play an important role in cleaning the areas to give land use value.
